Could this be what the electric BMW M3 Touring could look like from 2027? We have exclusive renders!

The current BMW M3 Touring is selling well – so we assume that there will also be an electric M3 Touring. We thought about what it could look like. Here are the exclusive pictures!

BMW is working flat out on the electrification of its M models. It has now been confirmed: a fully electric BMW M3 is to come in 2027 - and very likely also as a Touring. BMW has so far kept a low profile on what exactly the first electric M3 station wagon will look like.

Carwow has created exclusive renderings that show a possible design direction of the BMW M3 Touring Electric. This is not official material from BMW, but how we envision the upcoming electric M3 model.

Design: Aggressive M-look meets new class

Render BMW M3 Touring

In our renderings, the BMW M3 Touring Electric is clearly based on the "New Class" design language, combined with classic M elements. The front looks much cleaner than in the current M3 with combustion engine, but does not do without an aggressive presence.

The following are striking:

  • a reinterpreted double kidney grille that is closed
  • sharply drawn, narrow LED headlights
  • a very wide, sporty track
  • aerodynamically optimised bumpers with typical M accents

At the rear, the M3 Touring Electric remains clearly recognizable as a station wagon: long roofline, sporty roof spoiler and a powerfully sculpted rear. Instead of classic exhaust tailpipes, there will probably be a diffuser-like finish, as we know it from performance electric cars – but we still thought the idea of fake exhaust pipes was quite good.

Performance and range: Four engines and real M-Performance?

Technically, the electric M3 Touring is likely to be based on the Neue Klasse platform. BMW has already confirmed that upcoming M electric cars can be equipped with up to four electric motors – one per wheel. Prototypes already spotted point to a wheel hub motor that could develop an enormous power of up to 1,300 hp. Whether that will come in the end is still written in the stars.

At the present time, the following seem realistic:

  • over 700 hp system output
  • Fully variable all-wheel drive with torque vectoring
  • a clear focus on driving dynamics, not just straight-line acceleration

In terms of range, it can be assumed that BMW is trying a balancing act: values suitable for everyday use without diluting the M claim. A WLTP range of around 500 kilometres currently seems realistic – much less in sporty use, of course.

Sales start: 2027 at the earliest

BMW itself cites 2027 as the rough time frame for the electric M3. The Touring – if it comes – is likely to follow a little later, as station wagons play an important role, especially in Europe. A near-production concept of the sedan could not be shown until mid-2026 at the earliest, and the Touring is probably not expected for the time being.
